Laugh Factory Comedy Camp Celebrates 32 Years
AN ESCAPE FOR KIDS WHO SHOULDN'T HAVE TO ESCAPE
For Immediate Release (Hollywood, CA) - On Saturday, June 18, 2016, the World Famous Laugh Factory will hold tryouts for its annual Comedy Camp at 11 a.m. at the Laugh Factory Hollywood. Tryouts are open to disadvantaged children from lower-income neighborhoods between nine and sixteen years of age.
Celebrating its 32nd year, the Laugh Factory Comedy Camp has helped over a thousand children in need build self-confidence by developing their humor and creativity through the healing power of laughter. This year, the Laugh Factory has partnered with Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Greater Los Angeles to participate in Mayor Garcetti and the City of Los Angeles' "Summer of Learning" program. Participants will have an opportunity to earn digital badges which are recognized by the City of Los Angeles and can be included on resumes and college applications. Furthermore, after performing during their graduation show at the end of Comedy Camp, each camper receives a check for their performance for the same amount as the famous comedian regulars that perform at the Laugh Factory weekly.
During the ten week program, the campers will be coached by professional comedians. In previous years, instructors have included comics Richard Pryor, Jim Carrey, Chris Rock, Paul Rodriguez, Dave Chappelle, Bob Saget, the Wayans brothers, Eddie Murphy, Tim Allen, Rob Schneider, Kevin Nealon, Rodney Dangerfield, Adam Sandler, George Lopez, Chris Tucker, Dane Cook, to name a few.
The mentoring and encouragement that kids receive at Comedy Camp instills them with the confidence required in public speaking and to achieve their dreams.
"Laughter heals and gives these kids the self-esteem to overcome obstacles that many of us don't have to face and to accomplish whatever they set their hearts and minds to," says Laugh Factory owner Jamie Masada.
The Laugh Factory Comedy Camp was featured in a PBS documentary, "Standup: A Summer at Comedy Camp," which aired nationally. Please see link to highlight reel: https://vimeo.com/162574507
