Out & About with Susan Hornik 9/24/16

Okay so you weren't one of the 7000 people invited to the Governors Ball to have a five star meal courtesy of Patina. Maybe your invite got lost in the mail. At least you didn't have to face the embarrassment of losing again, as so many of these Emmy nominees end up doing.  Still don't feel too bad for these celebrities, they get thousands of dollars of free culinary swag at celebrity gifting suites. Let's face it-while celebrities can afford to buy lots of expensive foodie items, being rich and famous has its perks.  Here's a look at all the free foodie  gourmet shit you could receive  during Emmys week.

Sterling K. Brown
visited the Backstage Creations Giving Suite™ benefiting the Television Academy Foundation at the 2016 Emmy® Awards and checked out luxury home goods from I Can't Believe It's Not Butter®, ageLOC Me by Nu Skin, a trip to the Mulia in Bali, the hinde leather bags, drinks by Austin Cocktails & L.A. Star Greens, Jaybird Freedom headphones and DELSEY luggage in the stylish suite designed by Rottet Studio.

At the Microsoft Theatre, Backstage Creations Emmy Lounge, celebrities were gifted a kitchen gift set, courtesy of  I Can't Believe It's Not Butter!® Celebrities and VIPs slathered themselves with butter and... just kidding. But stars like "Black-ish's"  Anthony Anderson and  Tracee Ellis Ross  jumped in the  buttery spread's  photo  and gif booth and had a blast, indulging  in bruschetta with berries, antipasto kabobs and chocolate truffles, all created with the butter spread.

To compensate for the pain of not winning, there was lots of drinking going on backstage too. Shameless star, William H. Macy, and his wife, Felicity Huffman, loved Austin Cocktails' pre-mixed cocktails, so much that they came back for a second drink. "Last Man on Earth's" Will Forte, also came back for seconds and said, "This margarita is better than Bali."

And with temperatures ridiculously hot yesterday, celebs were wicked grateful to get a gift certificate  for six months of free water delivery from Icelandic Glacial,™ a quick pick-me-up from the organic, plant-based supplement, Perfect 10 Superfood and a  $200 gift certificate to the Benjamin Steakhouse opening this fall.

Doris Bergman's seventh annual Emmy Style Lounge

Who knew there was such a thing as a luxury coffee specialist? At Doris Bergman's suite, held at Fig & Olive in West Hollywood, celebrities  chatted with Chef Bryan David-Scott, who gifted a chocolate grater while brewing  up his signature dark coffee, adding in a gourmet Indian Cream Liquor. Jason Ritter, Jane Lynch and Primetime Emmy winner Patrika Darbo  came by the lounge, which was hosted by Ein Drink, a European social media app designed to help you find drinking buddies. (Aren't you glad they are expanding in the U.S.?!)

Celebrity Connected suite

Foodies were almost ready for a diabetic coma after experiencing sugar heaven at the W Hotel's  Celebrity Connected gifting suite. Little Tipsy Cakes which were spiked a wee bit,  sweet potato apple chips by Seneca, Shut Your Pie Hole pie in a jar, and vegan and gluten free Yoga.urt were show stoppers, but it was The Curious Creamery that caught your eye if you were an ice creamaholic.  The company taught celebs how to make their own ice cream  with no machine needed, while gifting a variety of flavors.
But if celebs were  looking for the real deal, there was Blast Ice Cream, LA's first liquid nitrogen ice cream mobile  food truck.  For the gourmet condiment  fan, Corine's Cuisine g gifted a variety of sauces and recipes. There were also many green friendly vendors, including reusable food wraps by Nil, and reusable cake and loaf liners by Unstick. Mora Wines poured their  Cab Franc and Valpo, sending celebs off with their hand painted bottles.

GBK gave Emmy nominees at the L' Ermitage Hotel an impressive  $55K gift bag, which included Italian gourmet products  from Chef Filippo Sinisgalli, gift certificates valued at $11000 for a private dining experience for up to fifteen people. GBK is the mecca for giving suites and attracts a lot of celebrities, like Alan Cumming, who enjoyed  chocolates from Bread Basket Cake Company, and a variety of gourmet sandwiches from Ike's Place. Voo Vodka actually offered each celebrity a vodka tasting party for fifty of their friends .

 Nathalie Dubois' DPA gifting suite

At Nathalie Dubois' DPA gifting suite, raw foodies were excited to  check out Tarzana's 118 Degrees, which brought in a variety of plant-based samplings, and receive cooking tips. Batman fans may know the owner, Sharyn Winters, who played Cat Girl in the original "Batman" series.  MEOW!  For the non-vegetarians, The Cravery  offered sliders -brisket, chicken, turkey, veggie and pulled pork, along with shaved brussels,  ginger beets, avocado salad, shrimp cocktail and roasted vegetables. Emmy nominee Viola Davis is a fan of the restaurant, which specializes in slow roasted meats and salads.

----Hollywood Hair

Recently, I talked with  Kyle Hennessy, a veteran celebrity hair colorist/ stylist who works at West Hollywood's B2V Hair Salon, about the fall hair trends he has been seeing. "Everyone seems to be going lighter, and I see that trend continuing with some warm lowlights. The key to this look is to keep your natural color with very natural looking highlights that gradually lighten from the  root to end, finishing the look with a fresh cut and a smooth blow. You are all set for the fall."

At the Emmys, Kyle sees the hair taking over where last year's runways left off; with very sleek, smooth, slick back hair with heavy clean parts. "A lot of people are doing the long bob like Khloe Kardashian, which can be cropped right above the shoulders or below with some long layers, styled to look natural or a smooth blowout vs a lot of waves and curls. Check out Kyle's Instagram, where he posts beautiful pictures of all his hair models and latest appearances on  television and fashion shoots.

Health Coach Jill Lawrence gave Discover Hollywood readers some tips to get in shape this fall.

5 Swaps to a Slimmer  Fall!

1) Swap out your current beverage for Kombucha, green tea or lemon water. Probiotics boost immune health, mood, digestion and green tea is bursting with antioxidants and throws a fat burning party. Lemon water clears your skin, liver, detoxifies as well as hydrates.

2) Instead of losing yourself in someone's else's perception of life on social media, take those 10 minutes to meditate, turn within and calm your nervous system. Less stress means less cortisol, the hormone that creates a fat get together on your tummy.

3) Always break-the-fast! Breakfast IS the most important meal. Speed up your metabolism with a high protein, high fiber breakfast. Protein feeds your muscles, fiber feeds the toilet.

4) Switch junky snack foods that make you think and feel junky to nuts and seeds paired with a green apple or pear. Think sunflower, pumpkin, almond, walnut and cashews. The healthy fats nourish your brain, hair, skin, nails and keep you satiated while the high fiber fruit keeps you full with extra vitamins & minerals.

5) Rather than being the life of the party bring the party to your bed. Well, only you are invited. 8-9 hours of sleep is imperative. Muscles replenish, hormones are balanced, memory is improved and your body digests and detoxes the day's food and learning. Plus you wake up rested instead of a raging hungry biatch.
