Las Garcia - Hollywood Fringe Festival Review
By Harrison Held
"Las Garcia" is a captivating one woman show that is definitely worth seeing. The exciting, entertaining and intriguing production was written by and stars the talented, energetic and charismatic Gabriela Ortega who recently graduated from USC with a BFA in acting. She is a talent to be reckoned with.
"Las Garcia" is a funny and poignant piece about two Dominican women from the same bloodline fighting to find their true selves through love, war and their innermost desires. It is a fast moving, funny and compelling coming-of-age piece about a young Dominican lady who finds that she must go back to her roots in her native country in order to move forward. The stories are seamlessly interwoven and poetically shared by Ms. Ortega about her life and ancestry in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic. "Las Garcia" is well directed by Alex Alpharaoh and well produced by Matthew Quinn and Ms. Ortega. Ms. Ortega is a young, powerful and vivacious performer and an excellent story teller who treats her audience to an original and insightful journey. Presented by OrtegART & Studio C Artist with lighting design and stage management by Jessica Major, costume design by Audrey Halaas Voorhees with sound design by Philip Allen and Stephen Jensen. Enjoy!
The award winning production is now playing
until August 21
at Asylum - Studio C at Hollywood's Theatre Row on Santa Monica Boulevard.
