CRINGE FESTIVAL (2024) - Write Act Repertory at Brickhouse Theatre

Cringe Festival (2024) - Write Act Repertory Theatre at Brickhouse

Reviewed by Amalisha HuEck

A World premiere of 5 chilling original one acts on the Brickhouse theatre stage, present another season of ghastly bedtime stories, clever tales with a taste of the dark side, the horror of the Zombie land in conjunction with the classic tale of Romeo and Juliet, the negativity of our image in the mirror, to the feeling of uneasiness when the lights go out. Imagination and creativity mixed with fun, especially when fear means survival, create another world of the new season of Write Act Repertory's second annual Cringe Festival 2024.

A collection of five different one-act plays is again written by 5 different writers and directed by 5 different directors. All the tales blend into each other smoothly with the hint of death and destruction.  Fun of creating is present all around. The introduction at the beginning of each scene is held in a peculiar style, by interpretation and by a costume. An interesting monologue gives this Host (Whitney Bowers) a chance to shine in a particular esteem. As it is that time when we allow ourselves to enjoy the dark side of our living and play with the 'supernatural, macabre, and ghoulish', these acts 'filled with mystery, poignancy, laughter, and fantasy' are giving us the right flavor of Halloween season.

Nicely compact stories are told by 11 actors in this year's Cringe Fest, Whitney Bowers, Adanna Ehiribe, Alexandra Deaver, Annie O'Neil, Harry Gillette, Jasmine Rivera, Jeannette Srinivasan, Jeffrey Pendo, Lance Bagley, Lee Gordon and Mary Nakanishi. Great job everyone!

The stories presented with lots of imagination are, 'Shadow of a Doubt' written and directed by Jorge A. Pulido, 'To Cut a Long Story Short' written by Thomas J. Misuraca and directed by Stephanie O'Neill, 'Mousetrap' written and directed by Katie Bogart Ward, 'Fles Wodahs' written and directed by Darrin Yalacki and 'Thus With a Kiss' written by Susan C. Hunter and directed by Alicia Marie Agramonte.

Producing Artistic Director John Lant proudly presents this year's Cringe Festival stories with Producer Darrin Yalacki by his side and Associate Producer Anne Mesa. The rest of the Creatives are Jonathan Harrison (Operations Manager, Jonathan Harrison and Alicia Agramonte (Technical), Mitch Metivier (Casting Assistant), Eiden Family (Write Act Rep Angels) and Sandra Kuker PR (Publicity).         The make-up, the costumes, the music and the scenes are a great creative expression of the artists involved.
