Getting Around Hollywood
Getting around Hollywood no longer has to involve looking for a parking spot or inching along Hollywood Boulevard. As local
residents and incoming tourists become more familiar with the convenience of DASH Hollywood and Metro Rail, getting to their destination has become much easier. These recent advances in local motion reveal that Hollywood is rising above the traditional criticism of Los Angeles public transport. The regional transportation system has evolved and now natives and newcomers alike can simply pick up an easy to follow map, and with some change in their pocket, arrive at any number of Hollywood locations with ease.
DASH Hollywood shuttle runs between Highland Ave. and Vermont Ave., Franklin Ave. and Santa Monica Blvd. Anyone can hop on DASH shuttle for 25¢ (seniors only 10¢) at one of the 8 Hollywood stops where the shuttle bus arrives approximately every half hour. DASH Beachwood Canyon connects Argyle & Hollywood Red Line Station and runs north to Beachwood & Westshire with 11 stops along the route. Although there are no connections to destinations outside of Hollywood, DASH provides effective shorter distance transport.
For longer routes there is the Metro Rail. The $1.25 ticket is easily obtained at the self-service machines located within the stations and transfers only require an additional 25¢. An all-day pass good for DASH, MTA busses and the Metro subway is only $3!
The Metro Rail Red Line goes between North Hollywood and Union Station, with trains in both directions arriving approximately every 6 minutes at the three Hollywood stops. From Hollywood, Universal Studios can be reached in 5 minutes and downtown in 15 minutes. Connections can be made to Pasadena on the Gold Line, to Long Beach via the Blue and Green Line, LAX via the Green Line, and to a number of farther locations from downtown’s Union Station via Metrolink trains. Easy to read maps are available on sight which clearly mark distances and appropriate transfers. DASH Hollywood runs from 7AM to 8 PM Monday-Saturday weekdays and 9 AM- 6 PM weekends and holidays. DASH Beachwood runs 6:45 AM to 7:25 PM weekdays and 7:30 AM to 6 PM weekends. Metro Subway Red Line operates from 4:30 AM to 12:30 AM. Call (323) 808-2273 for more information regarding tickets. Metro Rail trains run everyday of the week from 4:30 AM to 12 midnight. For a copy of the schedule and maps see www.mta.net or call 1-800-COMMUTE for information.
